Sleeping Disorders 365Sleeping Disorders 365 says that NREM parasomnias are an arousal disorder that happens during sleep stage 3 and sleep stage 4 of NREM sleep, which is often referred to as slow wave sleep.

These parasomnias are a result of physiological activation in where the individual's brain exits from slow wave sleep and becomes stuck between a sleep state and a wakening state. Sleeping disorders 365 says that this parasomnias also result in the activation of the autonomic nervous system, but can also affect the motor system in the body in some cases it can affect the cognitive processes during sleep or sleep wake transitions in the sleep cycle.

It usually starts in childhood but decrease as age increases.
