Narcolepsy is Not Insomnia

narcolepsyNarcolepsy is a problem of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS). A victim normally will fall asleep during the wrong times of day. However what most people don't realize is the victim is undergoing troubled nocturnal sleep. Someone that sees a narcoleptic at night might accidentally diagnose them as an insomniac. At the beginning stages of narcolepsy, a person normally experiences EDS and further symptoms can develop months or years later to include cataplexy and sleep paralysis. Cataplexy is when a person looses all control of their muscles and yet stays awake during the period. Sleep paralysis is when a person begins to fall asleep or awakes and the brain awakes but the body has not; leaving the person unable to move.

List of Sleeping Disorders - Narcolepsy in Children

List of Sleeping DisordersThank you for visiting Sleeping Disorders 365 tonight! There is a long list of sleeping disorders that affect children. There is a really interesting article that was written about narcolepsy, a sleeping disorder that affects children during the day.

The article was written by Pauline McInnes and can be found by visiting www.telegraph.co.uk/digitallife/main.jhtml?xml=/connected/2000/11/16/ecnsleep16.xml.

It talks about how scientists are trying to find an answer to the disorder and have begun to conduct studies on children who suffer from narcolepsy. I hope you will definitely read the article and if you think your child may suffer from narcolepsy I hope this has been very helpful.
